Tax Credit Details

Here at R&M, we pride our selves on giving the absolute best service at the fairest price. We also believe in fully explaining the benefits of installing new windows and doors in your home, as well as the perks.

With the 2009-2010 Residential Energy Credits currently offered, we have received a great many inquiries on how this all works. We would like to take some time to explain some of the requirements and processes for eligibility for the up to 30% or $1,500 Tax Credit.

Firstly, this is a tax credit that is taken off the purchased cost of goods, Windows and Materials), and not the labor. The equation is for UP TO 30% off the cost per window(s) and Materials, not to exceed $1,500 total.

FOR EXAMPLE:

  • Project A - 1 window and Material = $250.00 x 0.30 = $75.00 Credit
  • Project B - 15 Windows and Material = $5,750 x 0.30 = ($1,752) $1,500*
*(Max Credit given is $1,500)

The window will have to meet the required energy efficiency standard. U-Factor=.30(or lower) and SHGC=.30(or lower). The U-Factor is a calculation of the entire windows' frame and glass ability to retain heat in the winter and resist heat in the summer. The SHGC stands for Solar Heat Gain Co-efficient, this is a formula determining the glasses ability to resist heat loss and absorption during the seasonal changes.

Average windows now are dual pane, meaning 2 pieces of glass that are hermetically sealed to offer a barrier of insulation between outside and in. This is a great advance over the older single pane aluminum windows. But these windows that qualify for the Tax Credit have great improvements on this technology which can save tremendous amounts on your Heating and Cooling cost.

Thank you for your time, we hope this answered a few of the questions arising from the program.
